※ Guidelines on Press Card for Foreign Journalists

KCIS is issuing press cards for foreign journalists who have been assigned as Seoul correspondents of foreign news agencies and for Korean journalists employed as reporters for Seoul branches of foreign news agencies in order to assist their news coverage in Korea. Those who have not been issued press cards or those who hold expired press cards are advised to fill out application forms according to the following guidelines, and personally visit KCIS or submit by mail along with required documents.

1) Qualifications

· Foreign journalists assigned as Seoul correspondents of foreign media companies
(Holders of D-5 visa for long-term news reporting)
· Korean journalists employed as reporters of Seoul branches of foreign news agencies

2) Validity

One year (Required to renew at the end of the year.)

3) Press Card Holders

· Access allowed to the central government briefing room
· Access allowed to interviews and news conferences for foreign reporters
· Government will provide news releases on major policies and pending issues
· Invited to press tours to international events or major local festivals
· Access allowed to major government events and assistance offered for news reporting
activities

1) Documents Required for Press Card

· Order form : Download and fill out application form (top).

- Foreigners: curriculum vitae, application form (attached), copy of passport (pages containing personal data and D-5 visa), copy of alien registration card, assignment papers and two photographs (3cm x 4cm)

- Korean nationals: curriculum vitae, application form (attached), one personal information, one family register (first-time applicants only), standard certificate, certificate of employment and three photographs (3cm x 4cm)

2) Screening Procedures

· Receipt of the application form and other required documents

· (For Korean nationals applying for press card for the first time) Police background check, verification of employment at Korean missions abroad

- For first-time foreign applicants, police check waived

- In case of re-issuance, police check waived for both Korean nationals and foreigners
  · Internal review based on police reports and report of Korean missions abroad
  · Print out press cards
  · Issue press cards
